What a fantastic chess club tournament we just completed. Three weeks and 48 games of competitive chess. I want to thank all who participated and also my good friend Bill Klippel for the encouragement.
The best Danish chess player of all time, Bent Larsen, died yesterday, Thursday September 9th, 2010, after a short illness. He had suffered for a number of years from diabetes, but it is not yet known whether this was the cause of his death. In the latter part of his life Larsen resided in Buenos Aires with his Argentinian wife Marta. He will always be remembered.
We are up to 31 rated chess players now. Please welcome Robert Pool, David Barrera, Lloyd Albanos and Jonathan Lumian to the chess club. The HCC has been getting lots of public interest and more players on the way and it looks like we might have to start utilizing the front patio concrete tables which are actually comfortable.
*Tournament Winner: Jeff Arnold won both events, The open and the blitz
